3 Ways to Turn Your ADHD into a Superpower

Do you dry clean that cape, mama?

Because you are a real life superhero, my friend.

You’re not one of those ‘regular’ moms. The ones that can happily get lost in the nitty-gritty details of life. Carpools. Perfectly-curated cold lunches. Signing off on that book report…

…ok, that one’s important. But still.

No, your dopamine-loving super brain probably prefers to soar high above in Big Picture Land.

You’re a visionary.

And you know what? That’s pretty freaking amazing.

If you’re anything like me, and I’m pretty sure you are, it didn’t always feel amazing.

Us ADHD mamas spend wayyyy toooo muuuuch time judging ourselves harshly for not being the nitty-gritty integrators of life. The DOERS.

You know the ones. The moms who don’t have piles of bills to go through, library books to return and jeans on their bedroom floor. (If they could just invent an adhd-proof chest of drawers where you could SEE all of your clothes at all times…)

But that’s not you. And it’s not me.

So today, let’s talk about 3 ways you can go from ‘what the actual crap is wrong with me?’...

…to ‘HOT DANG I ROCK AT LIFE.’

#1 - Value and appreciate your gift of being a visionary

Try this, mama: ask your kids to list 3 things they love about you. GUARANTEED it’s not when you get them to school on time or remember to call the dentist.

The little bits of magic that YOU create…

the dancing in the kitchen, the running through the rain, the silly poems you make up to help them remember multiplication problems…

THOSE are the things they’ll remember.

You are a visionary, Mama. And it’s unique. Not every mama has your abilities.

#2 - Pay attention to what charges your battery vs depleting it

It’s not that you suck at paying bills. Or handling admin tasks. Or organizing tupperware drawers.

But those things don’t light you up. They drain. the. life. out of you. Don’t they?

Try this: identify the daily, weekly, monthly tasks that are sucking the dopamine straight from your brain. Write them down.

Then move on to #3.

#3 - Outsource and ask for help

Newsflash: you DO NOT have to do all the things ‘most moms should.’

In fact, try taking the nasty ‘should’ word OUT of your vocabulary and ask yourself what you can assign (or pay) someone else to do.

When your mental energy isn’t being zapped by tasks that you hate, you’ll free up so much time and energy to focus on creating more of that magic in your life.

And a bonus:

#4 - Find ways to help others or monetize your ideas/interests

ADHD moms are uniquely qualified to run their own businesses. And who better to become an expert on a topic than someone who can hyperfocus better than 99% of the population?

There you have it, Mama.

Try these out.

Iron that cape.

Better yet, get someone else to iron that cape.

And don’t forget: You. Are. Magic.

The world - and your family - need exactly what you offer.
